GLOBAL HUNGER APPEAL
WE RAISED £870
This means drought-resistant seeds can be provided for 580 farmers.
Thank you for your donations.
Join us in prayer
When Famine stalks the land, nothing grows.
Plants cannot, people cannot, ideas and dreams cannot –
everything withers and dies.
It is a violent aberration of your will for the world
and it is multiplied now
by conflict, climate change and COVID.
God of the flourishing field, there is enough to feed us all.
Call us to that sacred sharing –
neighbour to global neighbour -
Your gifts of food, water,
a chance to live the life so delicately crafted
by your divine spirit.
We will not turn away but turn towards each other
with generosity and a justice-driven compassion
that searches for solutions.
Famine stalks the land, so may our outrage grow,
may our determination steel itself,
may our solidarity spur us into action.
God of the flourishing field,
help us feed each other.
Amen.

This year our Lent appeal will be in support of the Christian Aid
GLOBAL HUNGER APPEAL
We urgently need your support to help the 41 million people around the world who are facing extreme hunger.
We are asking everyone to give at least £30 to this appeal.
Why £30? - £30 could buy drought-resistant seeds for 20 farmers.
Each week details of the appeal will be on the weekly e-mail and in the church notices.
11th March 2022 Please take a moment to read this.
The Ukraine crisis is simply awful and we have no idea what the long term economic affect will be. What we do know is that the Ukraine is a major grain producer. In the west wheat will be scarcer next year.
The World Food Programme takes 40% of their wheat from the Ukraine to feed the poorest in the world. It is the poorest of the poor, the ones we don’t; see every day on the television, the forgotten millions who will ultimately reap the greatest cost.
The WFP report that
811 million people go to bed hungry every night, the number of those facing acute food insecurity has more than doubled - from 135 million to 276 million - since 2019. A total of 44 million people in 38 countries are teetering on the edge of famine.
This seismic hunger crisis has been caused by a deadly combination of four factors.
More than 41 million people in 43 countries are teetering on the brink of famine. Without immediate action, women, men and children will lose their lives. This is a global hunger emergency. The Covid-19 pandemic, violent conflict and the climate crisis have all increased global hunger. Now, people in countries including South Sudan, Ethiopia and Burkina Faso are facing the very real threat of famine.
Families desperately need food and clean water to survive. If we act now, we can prevent unnecessary deaths.
Our response
With the help of Christian Aid local partners, your support can make a world of difference. Their partners work with communities to prevent famine and build resilience by delivering life-saving food and support to people who need them most.
The situation is particularly dire in South Sudan, where it is estimated that up to 60% of the country will face severe food insecurity. Hundreds of thousands of women, men and children are likely to face famine. We want to raise emergency funds to provide the lifesaving support they need. With your we can: -

This seismic hunger crisis has been caused by a deadly combination of four factors.
- CONFLICT is still the biggest driver of hunger, with 60 percent of the world's hungry living in areas afflicted by war and violence. Events unfolding in Ukraine are further proof of how conflict feeds hunger, forcing people out of their homes and wiping out their sources of income.
- CLIMATE SHOCKS destroy lives, crops and livelihoods, undermine people’s ability to feed themselves, and have displaced 30 million from their homes globally in 2020.
- The economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic are driving hunger to unprecedented levels.
- And, last but not least, the COSTS of reaching people in need is rising: the price WFP is paying for food up 30 percent compared to 2019 and the cost of delivering that food has risen by an additional US$42 million a month, compared to that same year.
